Britain’s deputy ambassador to Hungary, Steven Dick, has died after contracting coronavirus.
The 37-year-old diplomat died on Tuesday.
Dick was posted in Budapest last autumn after undergoing a year of full-time intensive Hungarian language training.
He was reported to have returned to Budapest from a holiday in Mexico before he tested positive
The secretary of Foreign and Commonwealth Office , Dominic Raab in a statement described Dick as a dedicated diplomat who represents his country well.
“Steven was a dedicated diplomat and represented his country with great skill and passion.
“He will be missed by all those who knew him and worked with him,” the statement read in part.
Hungary has 226 confirmed cases of coronavirus since its outbreak in Wuhan, China.
