The governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi has said that he will shut down all land borders leading to Ebonyi on Saturday, in a bid to prevent the deadly coronavirus from spreading into the State.
Umahi made this known on Thursday while touring all banks, clubs and institutions located within the Abakaliki metropolis to monitor the level of compliance by citizens of the state on government directives on maintaining social distance and other preventive measures outlined by government to curtail the spread of covid-19.
Although, the state has not recorded any suspected case of the virus, the Governor has taken proactive and responsive measures to prevent the spread of the virus in the State.
He said that there will be no movement of passengers and commuters in or out of the state as from Saturday when all the borders is closed, noting that this measure is targeted to protect all residents from contacting the virus from people who are from infected states and areas.
Umahi urged people to be watchful and report anyone they suspect of having symptoms of the virus like coughing to government.
“We are checking for cholera, Lassa Fever, Covid-19. You have to be your neighbour’s keeper by giving us information. This will help us to protect Ebonyi State.
“From Saturday, no one will be allowed to come in or go out. Only vehicles carrying food stuff, construction materials and medical supplies will be allowed to come in. Only patients going in or out for treatment will be allowed passage.
He also advised the people on some safety measures to boost their immunity against the virus
“Try to use hot water, stay out of air conditioner. Avoid cold water, serve hot water and drink hot. Try garlic and lemon, it is very important. Stay safe, you are very important to us”, he advised.
