The Zamfara State Government has directed that all its borders be closed with effect from Saturday, March 28, 2020, which it said is one of the measures against spread of COVID-19.
This was made known during statewide broadcast in Gusau, the state capital by Governor Bello Mohamned Matawalle , Thursday evening.
Governor Matawalle said that as from Saturday, all borders of the state would be closed down where vehicles will not be allowed to enter or leave the state for an initial period of two weeks.
“The state Government has already ordered for all necessary testing kits and essential materials needed for the prevention of the spread of covid-19 among the population.”
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that every citizen in the state was protected against this dreaded pandemic.
According to him, leaders have the responsibility to take every action necessary to prevent this pandemic from becoming an epidemic.
It would be recalled that the state government earlier closed down all schools in the state, asked state civil servants to stay at home until further notice, calling on individuals to minimise being in crowds.
Matawalle noted that only the workers doing essential duties like the Ministry of Health would be allowed to be reporting to duty as their works are very important to the people of the state.
The governor warned all the security chiefs in the state to ensure perfect compliance of the directive, pointing out that his administration had earlier constituted a committee to ensure that no vehicle comes into the state or goes out of the state for two weeks.
The chief security officer of the state said that all the security operatives would work under the watchful eyes of the state commissioner of police, Barrister Usman Nagogo.
” I would not expect any reason if my directive fails because I program it to work out successfully,” he warned.
