The Kogi State Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Haruna Audu has debunked rumours that some COVID-19 patients in FCT and Kano States’ isolation centres broke protocols, escaped from their centres, and made their way to Kogi State.
Dr Audu, while giving an update on Coronavirus in Kogi State on his Facebook page, said such a report was fake and should be disregarded by the general public.
The Health Commissioner described those peddling the news as mischief-makers who intend to cause panic among the people.
“We received rumours that patients in FCT and Kano States’ isolation centres broke protocols, escaped from the centres, and made their way to Kogi State.
“After making calls to the management of both isolation centres who confirmed they had had no case of patients unaccounted for, we are stating categorically that this is nothing but rumours peddled by mischief-makers.
“We advise the public to desist from sharing unsubstantiated rumours that could cause panic among the people. We already have a lot on our hands; we can’t add fake news and rumours to our list of worries. Protecting Kogi State from COVID-19 is a collective responsibility,” he stated.
