Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello has accused security agents in the state of compromising the restriction order on movement in the state.
He lamented that instead of carrying out their duty diligently, the security agents prefer to collect stipends and allow the people to pass, despite knowing they are not immune to the virus and also endangering their lives.
Governor Bello revealed that in the past two days, he had seen lots of vehicles over 30 of them coming from Kontagora that were heading to Kano.
Visibly displeased with the development, he said, he was angry that the travellers had passed checkpoints on their way without being stopped thereby compromising the government’s effort.
”They collect stipends and allow the people to pass. They should know that they are not immune to this virus and they are also endangering their lives”.
” This day and age when we see what is happening, Kano should be a place to be avoided. Sadly, when I asked if they understand the situation on ground they said they did, and if they know about the virus, they also said they did but they still chose to leave Kontagora for Kano despite what is on the ground.”
To tackle the situation, the governor ordered the council Chairmen of nine local government areas in the state to quarantine anyone seen returning from Kano State for 14 days including their goods.
The councils are Tafa, Munya, Suleja, Paikoro, Bosso, Chachanga, Kontagora, Rafi, and Mariga.
“The Chairmen of Tafa, Munya, Suleja, Kontagora, Rafi, Paikoro, Bosso, Chachanga, Mariga should quarantine these traders and returnees from Kano for two weeks. Make provision for small hotels where you will place them on quarantine. Who knows, even the goods from Kano can also be contaminated.”
Bello directed the security to be stationed on major roads from 3 pm to detail anyone who is coming from Kano, insisting,” The case in Kano is very serious and we have to take it seriously to prevent the spread in the state.”
He further stated that security of all entry points into the state would be reinforced to ensure strict adherence to the lockdown directive.
