French President Emmanuel Macron will embark on a state visit to Nigeria later this year, French Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Marc Fonbaustier, has announced.
The ambassador, speaking during France’s National Day celebration in Abuja, said the visit—coming two years after President Bola Tinubu’s trip to Paris—will provide both leaders an opportunity to review progress in bilateral relations and chart a more ambitious roadmap for cooperation.
Fonbaustier described Nigeria and France as “partners of equals,” highlighting growing collaboration in trade, agriculture, security, counter-terrorism, democratic governance, and investment. He also noted that Macron’s vision for Africa was influenced by the six months he spent in Nigeria as a student over two decades ago.
Macron’s visit is expected to further strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between both nations.
