President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, revealed that his administration has restored peace in the Niger Delta region.
The President said the maintenance of oil production levels and engagement of youths by his government had restored peace in the region.
Buhari said this during his nationwide broadcast on Friday in celebration of Democracy Day.
“With sustained engagement of youths, opinion leaders and other stakeholders, we have restored peace in the Niger Delta Region and maintained our oil production levels.
“The Head office of the Niger Delta Development Commission will be commissioned shortly. The Funding of sections I–IV of the East-West Road shall be pursued with a view to completing the project by the end of 2021,” he said.
The President further promised to complete projects set up by his administration to develop the Niger Delta region by the end of 2021.
Buhari mentioned that he has ordered a forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission to monitor and ensure implementation of projects in the Niger Delta region.
“Furthermore, I am determined to ensure that development meant for the people of the Niger Delta gets to them so I have authorised a Forensic Audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission,” Buhari added.
