The Kano Verbal Autopsy Reports on Mysterious deaths in the State has showed only 15.9 percent deaths of coronavirus related cases as against the Federal Government’s 50 to 60 percent reported earlier.
The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire was quoted to have said that more than half of the mysterious deaths that had happened in Kano which was of 50-60 percent were COVID-19 related.
But a new report received by the State has showed that only 15.9 percent of deaths recorded in the state were linked to COVID-19.
Governor Umar Abdullahi Ganduje while receiving the report in a joyous mood said the report has put to rest hypothesis, potentialities, expectations of those who never wishes Kano well.
Ganduje said, “The report of the Federal Government showing 60 percent dying from COVID-19 lacks all the variables, lacks correlations, it did not pass basic validity and reliability test, signifying nothing and misleading everybody. ”
He said he is personally taking the Kano Verbal Autopsy Report to President Muhammadu Buhari, the SGF, Boss Mustapha and the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehinare.
However, the Kano Verbal Autopsy Report of June 2020 according to the lead researcher, Professor Mukthar Gadanya, a public health physician from Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, said only 255 people died of Coronavirus related cases.
Professor Gadanya said the findings showed that 70 percent of the deaths were on medications on different illness of Hypertension, Diabetes and many other illnesses.
He said 60 percent of those who died were male while 40 percent were females and 76 percent were ages above 50. He revealed that the death had it pick period around 26th April with 121 persons dead.
Professor Gadanya added that 1774 persons actually died between 11th April and 2nd of May 2020 at the 8 metropolitan cities of the State.
He noted that 1004 died of fever while 59 died of shortness of breath, 69 from various complications, and 567 had no fever at all.
Kano Municipal had the highest mysterious death while Tarauni Local Government recorded the highest cases of COVID-19, adding that if the mysterious deaths was COVID-19, there could have been more deaths in the state.
