The Police Commissioner, Ekiti Command Mr. Amba Asuquo says intensive lectures on the management of rape cases are currently ongoing at Police Formations, Institutions, Colleges as well as at Divisional levels nationwide.
The Commissioner disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen during a courtesy visit to the command by Mr Abiodun Adigun the state Coordinator, National Human Rights Commission Ekiti State,
The NHRC coordinator had said his visit to the Command was part of the agency’s one-week activism against rape, sexual and gender-based violence.
The visit, according to the States Coordinator, was in fulfillment of the Commission’s mandate and its determination to urgently address these heinous crimes.
“The incidents of rape cases and Gender-Based Violence in the Country have increased dramatically in the last few weeks, resulting in the murder of some victims, and these calls for urgent attention to put a stop to these menaces in our Society.
In his remark, the Police Commissioner said he was delighted for the problem solving driven visit and assured the Commission that the Command shall continue to work and liaise with relevant agencies, including the Office of the wife of the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi as well as the FIDA, Ekiti State, to ensure that the fight against reoccurring incidents of Rape, Sexual assault and Gender-Based violence is successfully won.
He, however, appealed to the Government at all levels to assist the Police with relevant logistics needed for easy, quick and accurate treatment of rape and Gender Base violence cases.
