A former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Osun State, and the Secretary to Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, BOSAN, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, has expressed worries over some developments ahead of the forthcoming Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) national elections.
Awomolo in a letter to Chief T.J.O Okpoko, SAN, and the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, BOSAN, expressed concerns over an alleged move by members of the Outer Bar to wrestle the office of the NBA president from the members of the Inner Bar.
He said that the President of the Bar Association must be a member of BOSAN.
The Nigerian Bar Association national election comes up in July.
Awomolo, in the letter, insisted that it would be in the interest of the legal profession for the position of the NBA President to be held by a Senior Advocate.
According to him, this will help preserve the seniority in the Bar on one hand and “the integrity, honour and respectability of the Office of President of NBA” on another hand.
He called for an urgent meeting of past Presidents of the NBA to save the situation.
The renowned legal practitioner noted that the present revolutionary quest to “wrestle” and take away the position from a SAN by junior members in the Bar will be “unfortunate.”
