Anambra State Government has warned against the grazing of animals on school premises.
Ostar Christopher, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Security, decried that this was going on despite ban.
The aide spoke with newsmen in Awka on Saturday.
Christopher cited reports of face-off between herdsmen and farmers due to conversion of farms and schools to grazing fields.
He said the act has caused “lots of clashes between farmers and herdsmen because farm crops were destroyed or lives lost at times. The state took a decision to ban the practice to achieve peace”.
The official warned that further violation of the ban on grazing on school premises would attract serious sanctions
He recalled that the Cattle Menace Control Committee reached an agreement with herdsmen leaders against grazing in academic environment.
“We have been able to make herdsmen who have been grazing in Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University to move out of the premises peacefully.”
Christopher added that Anambra would not tolerate animals destroying crops and farms or invading institutions of learning.
