President Muhammadu Buhari and predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, will meet in Bamako, Mali, today.
Jonathan, ECOWAS Special Envoy, arrived the country ahead of Buhari.
This is the former Nigerian leader’s second trip in one week.
He gave an update on Thursday via his Twitter account.
“I arrived Bamako this morning, the second time I will be visiting Mali with my @ecowas_cedeao team on a mediation mission in a week”, he tweeted.
“Today, we’re being joined by five West African Heads of State who are visiting Mali to hold further consultations with Malian stakeholders.”
Buhari and Jonathan will confer with ECOWAS heads led by President Issoufou Mahamadou of Niger Republic.
The leaders are in Mali to engage in further consultations towards finding a political solution to the crisis.
The people are asking Mali President, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, to step down.
The United Nations (UN), European Union (EU), African Union (AU), and ECOWAS, had condemned the government’s use of lethal force.
Keita will attend the Bamako parley.
Others expected are Presidents Machy Sall of Senegal, Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana and Alassane Ouattara of Cote d’Ivoire.
Jonathan had on Tuesday briefed Buhari after his initial trip.
He visited the State House, Abuja, in the company of President of ECOWAS Commission, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou.
