The Oyo State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday warned Muslims in the State to be wary of what it described as a Greek gift from Governor Seyi Makinde of the State.
DAILY POST had earlier reported that Makinde, on Thursday, ordered reopening of praying grounds for Muslims in the State.
Makinde said that Muslim praying grounds across the State will be opened for the 2020 Eid-el-Kabir prayers billed to take place today, (Friday).
He, however, warned that Muslim faithful must ensure strict compliance with COVID-19 protocols.
But, APC while reacting, advised Muslims in the State not to fall victims of what they described as a Greek gift from the Governor.
APC in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Dr. Abdulazeez Olatunde said that the caveat of people maintaining social distancing is a ruse.
Olatunde in the statement made available to DAILY POST in Ibadan, added that the Government of Makinde had not bothered enforcing any social distance rule at any of the markets in Oyo State, let alone implementing social distance rules at Eid grounds.
“The APC in our characteristics concern would like to advise Oyo Muslims to be wary of the GREEK GIFT of Gov Seyi Makinde’s opening of the EID Grounds for EID Worships. As at Thursday 30th July 2020, COVID-19 records in Oyo indicate 2,688 infections, 3rd in the country behind FCT, Nigeria Capital and Lagos, the commercial Capital of Nigeria.
“The Caveat of people maintaining Social distancing is a ruse as the Government of Engr Seyi makinde hasn’t bothered enforcing any social distance rule at any of the markets in Oyo State talk more of implementing Social distance rules at EID grounds that would be in multiple of markets.
“Finally, we urge the Muslims to allow the lesson of the Spirit of Sacrifice and submission as demonstrated by the two dramatic personnel I.e Prophet Ibrahim(a.s) and Prophet Ismail(a.s) to guide our interactions during the yuletide.
“Let’s use the occasion to pray to Almighty Allah to put a stop to this Covid-19 pandemic as well as remember the Medical Personnels who are in the frontline of the battle for divine protection and as well remember those who have been lost to the on going Covid-19 pandemic for Almighty God to forgive their shortcomings”.
