The recent elections claimed to have been won by Abdulaziz Yari’s faction of APC in Zamfara state have been thrown into stupendous jeopardy as the Appeal court sitting in Sokoto on Monday nullified the elections.
The court nullified the elections due to lack of concrete evidence to justify that there were primary elections within the state wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It could be recalled that senator Garba Kabiru Marafa, the leader of the G8 group had gone to the Appeal court challenging Abdulaziz Yari’s faction to produce authentic document that there was any primary election in the state wing of the party.
The senator supported his claims with the documents from the national headquarters of the party, confirming that there was no primary election in the state chapter, adding that the national headquarters of the party even submitted the documents to INEC which he said justified that there was no primary election in the state.
Based on shreds of evidence before the court, the elections were nullified for want of evidence from Governor Abdulaziz Yari and his camp that genuine primary elections were conducted in the state.
However, there have been diverse reactions since the elections from the National Assembly, governorship and state House of Assembly were annulled.
In a swift reaction, governor Abdulaziz Yari who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Affairs, Hon. Magaji Dosara, called on his followers to remain, calm assuring that he was on top of the situation.
“It is a legal battle which a winner must emerge at the end of the battle,” he said.
Although it was not clear as at press time whether the governor and his faction would head to the supreme court.
But there was serious jubilation from the G8 group supporters as senator Garba Kabiru Marafa boys were seen jubilating, saying that the judgment signified that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man.
“We have confidence in the judiciary and we are not afraid even if they drag the case to the apex court, victory is very sure for us,” they said.
However, all efforts to get the spokesman of Dr. Dauda Lawal Dare who is also one of the G8 group proved abortive as he could not be reached in person or through several phone calls.
Yet, most of the supporters of Governor Abdulaziz Yari and his group were apprehensive that if the APC loses the grips of power in the state , it would prove very difficult for the party to form government in the near future.
They maintained that when the news filtered into the state on Monday afternoon that the APC elections have been nullified, there was disquietness and palpable tension within the camp led by Governor Abdulaziz Yari.
