Business activities were yesterday paralysized in Abakaliki capital of Ebonyi State, as protesters barricaded the government house, major streets of the town, demanding that the governor David Umahi or deputy Kelechi Igwe must address them.
The protesters led by Nollywood actress, Angela Okorie demanded an end to the newly created SWAT unit, stressing that there should be a total reform of the police to avert the increasing assault of Nigerian youths.
DAILY POST reports that the protesters barricaded major roads, the Spirando junction, Dr. Sam Egwu Way road, old government house located opposite Ebonyi State police command.
The protesters carried placards demanding an “End SARS, End SWAT, reform of the police, end of police brutality, among other demands.
She said; “I’m a youth too, and we can’t allow the continued killing of innocent youths on the streets. We are on a peaceful protest and we demand that the police must be reformed.
“We have been hearing about reform and we are tired of this. We are hungry. We are tired. Government should take action. We are advocating that the police should be well paid” she noted.
