A Northern group under the auspices of Arewa Youth Assembly, AYA, has called on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to act swiftly to protect Nigerians against the activities of hoodlums that have taken over the peaceful End SARS protest to perpetrate evil.
The group in a statement by its speaker, Mohammed Salihu Danlami, explained that it is the civic rights of all Nigerians to put forward their agitation via peaceful protest or other means that conforms with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
They said Nigerians reserve the right to safer environments to go about their normal businesses, hence any effort by miscreants to disrupt this peace will be met with stiff resistance.
“While we understand that it is the civic rights of all Nigerians to put forward their agitation via peaceful protest or other means that conforms with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we must also understand that every Nigerian reserve the right to safer environments to go about their normal businesses, hence any effort by miscreants to disrupt this peace will be met with stiff resistance,” the statement observed.
The statement said, “Only this morning, there was the news of the unfortunate jailbreak in Benin correctional centre, we fear this is going to become the trend of events, if measures are not put in place, this might escalate to further mayhem which will be capable of creating turmoil all around the country. This is not good for the peace we have so far enjoyed and not also good for the intention of the youth protest.
It called on President Buhari to act swiftly and put an end to the chaos on the streets since the aim is been compromised, adding, “We are no longer comfortable with what might come up next, Nigeria is not a banana republic, everyone must be reminded of this fact.”
“Again, we will resist any attempt to undermine the peace we enjoyed. It’s Nigeria first before any individual,” the statement said.
