As reactions continue to trail End SARS protests with serious casualties, a non-governmental organization, Peoples Life Improvement Foundation (PLIF) has identified fraudulent electoral system and failure of government as responsible for grievances.
The Foundation insisted that the demands being pushed by the protesters were legitimate, saying that it would be unfair to pay deaf ears, but there was a need for President Buhari and the leadership of the National Assembly to pay attention to the issues being raised by the protesters in the country.
The group in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ngoama Waekite Wemi said the group stands with the End SARS campaign, noting that the slogan for the protest resonates with Nigerians who recall various injustices in public dealing between government institutions and the citizens.
The group maintained that the only way out was for a total reform of the system, but critical is the electoral reform upon which electoral Transparency builds confidence and drives accountability from the political leaders to the people.
The statement reads in part ‘We have summed up the totality of Prolonged bad governance in Nigeria which has ruined the country and has come to the conclusion that our electoral system is the sole reason why the country is in this miserable and undone state.
“Thus, resulting in the Pandemic Suffering and frustration of the youths, adults, educated and uneducated. These and many other social problems triggered the contemporary protest!
“The youths are demanding for a political reform that will give all Nigerians equal opportunities, a political structure where the rights of all individuals will be protected and respected.
“Mr President, and the leadership of the National Assembly, Nigerian’s are like dutiful children, who have received unmerited blows from a supposed beloved parent.
“Mr President, this is the time to leave a legacy of a listening government and write your name in the sand of time.”
It would be recalled that the Senate had in its resolution called on the President to listen to the call of the protesters and address the nation to quell the End SARS protest.
