Cross River State Police Command has deployed over 2, 000 officers and men for the Northern, Senatorial and State House of Assembly Bye Elections slated for the 5th December 2020
Disclosing this to DAILY POST on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo said, “From Cross River State we have deployed over 2, 000 men and officers for the Bye-election scheduled for December 5th.
“Other officers and men will be deployed from Obudu and other areas to beef up security during the election. We have put some strategies in place to ensure a violence-free, peaceful and credible election.
“Our officers have been lectured on the rules and regulations governing elections by the Commissioner of Police, Abdulkadir Jimoh and we promised to abide by that.
“We are on ground to make sure the election is peaceful and successful; right now we are at CBN to witness the distribution of election materials.
Our men are ready to provide adequate security to the electoral officers and materials” the PPRO assured.
She said that the State Commissioner of Police has briefed them on electoral do’s and don’ts and by the grace of God, the men and officers deployed to the election ground are going to do nothing more than that with a view to getting credible, successful and violence-free elections
“About vehicles, we may not have had enough but we make do with what we have and for now there is no challenge. Before now, the Political Parties who are participating in the elections had signed a peace accord for now, during and after the election during the stakeholder’s meeting.
“The parties are aware of the electoral offences and I believe they will operate on that limit and the rules guiding the elections. The men and officers know the rules of Policing and they know bribery is out of it and any officer caught will face an orderly room trial.
“We have been adequately briefed by the Commissioner of Police and it’s no go area, anybody caught will face disciplinary action” She stated.
