Renowned French-Italian fashion designer, Pierre Cardin has died at the age of 98.
The Legendary designer died at a hospital in Neuilly, west of Paris, on Tuesday, December 29th.
France’s Fine Arts Academy in a statement on Twitter confirmed Cardin’s death, noting that members of the academy are deeply saddened by the news of Pierre Cardin’s death.
The statement translated to English, reads,
“The Perpetual Secretary, Laurent Petitgirard, and the members of the Academy of Fine Arts are very sad to announce the death of their colleague Pierre Cardin. He was elected on February 12, 1992 in the chair of Pierre Dux (section of free members)”.

Cardin was born in Italy in 1922 but emigrated to France as a young child, after which he founded his own fashion house in 1950 after a stint with Christian Dior and built up a global business empire.
He was also known for bringing stylish clothes to the masses, popularizing the turtleneck sweater for men and bodysuits for women.
