The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has issued strong warning to the people of the State over disregard for COVID-19 guidelines.
In a series of tweets on Tuesday night, the Governor said there was an urgent need for the people to be more circumspect in the way they live, interact and socialize.
Sanwo-Olu noted that many people have chosen to flout COVID-19 warnings and guidelines, and engaged in actions that exposed them and others to the virus.
“We are well into the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Yesterday, Lagos scarily recorded its highest number of infections in one day (712). We have already recorded a frightening spike in infection cases. This spike brings positive cases to a total of 32,720 in Lagos alone,” the Governor added.
He reminded Lagosians that the new wave of the deadly virus comes with severe symptoms, adding that the higher the number of positive cases detected, the higher the number of deaths to be recorded.
“We do not want this, but for this to be avoided, we must be intentional and cautious,” he stated.
The Governor, who said he was not planning to declare another lockdown in Nigeria’s economic hub, appealed to the people to do the right thing.
According to him, “We also do not want to go into another lockdown. It is important that you wear your masks, avoid crowded areas, wash or sanitize your hands regularly, and practice social distancing.”
He said the new year will only be successful if everyone took coronavirus seriously, adding that “we simply cannot afford to be complacent at this time.”
