President Muhammadu Buhari says the peace of Nigeria’s neighbour, Niger, matters to the country.
He spoke on Thursday at State House, when he received former Vice President, Namadi Sambo, ECOWAS Head of Mission on the elections in Niger Republic.
Buhari hailed President Mahamadou Issoufou for keeping to his country’s constitution with respect to run-off polls scheduled for February 21, 2021.
“Neigbourliness, whether national or individual, is very important, as the peace of your neighbour, or lack of it, may also affect your own well-being,” he said.
The Nigerian leader wished Niger, Sambo and his team best of luck, as the run-off polls hold this weekend.
In his remarks, Sambo said campaigns have been peaceful so far, as the parties seal deals and alliances for outright victory.
In the first round of election, Mohamed Bazoum, an ex-minister of interior and foreign affairs got 39.33 percent of the vote, while former President Mahamane Ousmane polled 17 percent.
Both scores fell short of the required 50 percent for outright presidential victory.
