The senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ovie Omo-Agege, has said that he is the most qualified candidate for the office of the Deputy Senate president at the 9th Senate.
Omo-Agege, who is currently participating in a two-week induction programme being organised by the National Assembly management for members and senators- elect at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, said he will soon declare for the position, following calls and pressure from his colleagues.
He said the position for the DSP has been zoned to the south south by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which controls majority in the Senate, saying, he would use the opportunity to restore the greatness of the Nigerian government.
The lawmaker who is visibly seen lobbying colleagues at the event, said with his position, he will fairly ensure that all Nigerians irrespective of where they come from, partake in the envisaged change.
Information obtained on Tuesday from the secretariat of his campaign organization in Transcorp Hilton quoted Omo-Agege as saying, the Senate would partner with the executive, “to speedily move our country to the next level and deliver the people.”
He said: “There is no doubt that our nation faces huge problems of insecurity, unemployment, infrastructural deficit and corruption.
“The men and women of the 9th Senate are up to this challenge, provided, we remain committed to working for the good of the people.”
The lawmaker said he was prepared to work with everyone in the 9th Senate as a confidant and partner, adding that, the upper chamber will serve the people better in the discharge of its duties in check and balances without antagonising with the executive while maintaining its independence.
Recall that Omo-Agege had restated that his re-election victory in the February 23 National Assembly poll remains valid and legitimate.
Omo-Agege said this on Saturday, March 30 in a statement by Godwin Anaughe, his senior special assistant, communications and strategy, in Abuja.
