Governor Samuel Ortom has directed the immediate rehabilitation of facilities at the Benue State Secretariat in Makurdi, to provide a conducive environment for workers of the state.
The Governor who gave the directive today shortly after an inspection tour of the State Secretariat, said office furniture, toilets, electrical installations and other facilities should be properly checked and fixed.
He commended former Governor of the state, the late Chief Aper Aku for building the Secretariat, giving assurance that the State Government would not let the structure to waste.
Addressing the workers who had assembled at the office of State Head of Service, the Governor also directed the sinking of boreholes for each of the blocks to serve as standby water sources in the event of delay in supply from the State Water Board, stressing that he had already released funds for recticulation of water at the Secretariat.
Governor Ortom solicited the support of Benue civil servants to enable his administration address the issue of salary padding, in order to free funds for other projects as well as payment of gratuities and pensions.
He stated that the PENCOM Act of the Federal Government has been domiciled in the state to ensure that those retiring from service receive their pensions and other benefits without hitches.
Benue State Head of Service, Mrs. Veronica Onyeke, thanked Governor Ortom for his support to the Service, a disposition she said was a motivating factor for the workers.
The Governor later visited Greater Makurdi Water Works which he had visited less than two weeks ago, and also visited the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Solid Minerals where he directed the installation of a morden storage system for vital documents.
