Suspected bandits have invaded some communities in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State, killing, abducting residents, and rustling cattle.
The bandits, who were said to have abducted many residents of the area, mostly women and children, also killed some residents.
The Chairman Magama Local Government, Safiyanu Garba Ibeto, who confirmed the incident revealed that the hoodlums invaded Magama Local Government on Saturday through Mabirni, Zoma, Bado, Yangalu, and Buga Zabbi.
“The incident actually happened on Saturday and the bandits came in large numbers through Mabirni community,” Ibeto said.
He stated that the attacked areas have been deserted.
“While some women and children are hiding in the bushes, others are taking refuge in Kontagora seeking food and other basic needs.
“Majority of our people have abandoned their homes and ran away as a result of the attack. Some are in the bushes while some ran to Kontagora,” he added.
An elderly woman identified as Malama Khadijat Abdullahi said that two of her daughters were among those abducted, adding that they have been contacted by the bandits for ransom.
As of the time of filing this report, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security, Emmanuel Umar, who has been saddled with the responsibility of speaking on the issues of insecurity neither picked up calls nor returned them.
