Ahead of the 2022/23 season, Nigeria and Lorient striker, Terem Moffi, has been identified by Italian Serie A outfit Bologna as a possible transfer target.
According to Italian publication Corriere Dello Sport, the Serie A side may consider a move for the Nigerian should their bid for Jorgen Strand Larson fail.
The report claims Bologna are pleased with the performance of Austrian forward Marko Arnautovic but want a capable support striker for the former Stoke City player.
The 33-year-old joined the Red and Blue last season from Shanghai Port, China and went on to score 14 Serie A goals in 33 games for them last term.
According to Corriere Dello Sport, the Technical Director of the club, Giovanni Sartori, is banking on the Austrian forward to lead the attack when the season begins but wants a reliable partner for the striker.
Bologna are, however, in the market for a deputy for Arnautovic and have lined up Groningen striker Larson, who netted 14 goals in the Netherlands elite league last season, as their first-choice signing.
Negotiations are not proceeding as planned for the Norwegian attacker and Bologna have penned down the Super Eagles striker as an alternative should the deal for the 22-year-old striker collapse.
“Giovanni Sartori has everything ready. Or rather, there are three alternatives in the thoughts of the expert manager for deputy Arnautovic,” the website wrote.
“Believe us, if a day comes when Sartori were to abandon Strand Larsen it would mean that for one reason or another he no longer considers this operation constructive from an economic point of view, because as far as the technical aspect is concerned, no, he would never give it up.
“And this despite the fact that in the meantime he is also keeping alive a plan B and a plan C, represented by two other very interesting elevations.
“Plan B is linked to Terem Moffi, 23 years old, Nigerian striker of Lorient.”
Moffi, who has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, Atalanta, and Borussia Dortmund, scored eight Ligue 1 goals for Lorient last season.
