The Chairman 0f the Board of Trustees Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Walid Jibrin, has cautioned its members as well as all Nigerians against creating bad blood and confusion between the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike ahead of the 2023 general election.
The PDP chieftain noted that the current feud between the presidential candidate and Wike should not be categorised as a problem but mere “misunderstanding” within the party.
This, he said, was not beyond being surmounted by the party as efforts were on to reconcile Atiku and Wike.
He, therefore, appealed members to extend their supports to the Reconciliation Committee set up by the party to resolve the feud.
The PDP Chieftain stated this in a statement obtained by The PUNCH in Kaduna on Thursday.
Jibrin, a Second Republic Senator, also admonished party members to be more focused in working towards winning the 2023 general election.
He said, “I wish to call on all members of the PDP and all Nigerians to remain calm and never create bad blood and confusion on the state of our party noting that all efforts are on ground to reconciliate between Wike and Atiku.
“What is happening now should never be categorised as a problem but misunderstanding within the party.
“My strong advise is for us to give strong support to the present Reconciliation Committee set up to resolve all issues.
“At this period leading to the 2023 elections we should concentrate on how to win all positions to be contested and seriously adhere to the provisions of the party constitution.
“There after, the BoT, the highest advisory organ of the party, will give more encouragement leading to greater success of the PDP.”
The PUNCH had reported that the rift between Atiku and Wike started after the Rivers State governor’s ambition of becoming the party’s vice-presidential candidate for the 2023 general election failed following the emergence of the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as Atiku’s running mate.
