The Lagos State Accountant-General and Permanent Secretary of the State Treasury Office, Dr. Abiodun Muritala, has advised finance and accounting officers of all government ministries, departments, and agencies to acquaint themselves with the content of the reviewed treasury circular of the state.
Dr. Abiodun Muritala made the plea during a training session organised for Directors/Heads of Finance and Account Departments.
The training also marked the unveiling of the reviewed/updated Treasury Circular booklet by the permanent secretary of the Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Boladele Dapo-Thomas, at the STO Resource Centre, Alausa.
According to Murtala, the training would make it easier for all government MDAs to comply with established accounting procedures and regulations governing government revenues and expenditures.
He said, “I, therefore, recommend this document for use in the entire Lagos State public service for guidance in the day-to-day activities of public servants and for the general knowledge of other interested stakeholders outside the public service.”
He added that the state treasury office had the sole statutory responsibility, among others, to account for receipts and payments of government funds, collate and prepare statutory financial statements, and also conduct routine inspections of the books of MDAs to ensure compliance with extant rules and regulations.
He said the state Treasury Office was empowered to facilitate continuous capacity building through the training of accountants to enhance their competence level and quality of service delivery.
