Usman, who disclosed this while speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Lokoja, the state capital, said that solving the problem is the responsibility of all citizens who should accept that the issue of perennial flooding is a problem for all which must be tackled headlong.
He explained that he always felt the pains of the victims each time there was a flood disaster in the state, stressing that when his party forms a government in the state, the issue of flood will be a thing of the past
He highlighted some of the measures to take to prevent flood, saying that the construction of embarkment as well as the relocation of the people living along the flood plains to higher ground would be a priority under his administration.
“Our administration would also like to look at the possibility of constructing the coastal road from Ibaji Local Government to Onitsha in Anambra State,e to ease vehicular movements in Kogi State,” he said.
The ex-CNS pointed out that Kogi State is richly endowed with both mineral and human resources, adding that the state has no reason to be poor.
He added that the Accord Party administration in the state will ensure that people are completely lifted out of poverty.
“As part of efforts to move youths out of the streets, our administration will establish the Kogi Information Technology Agency which will greatly engage the youths in the state,” he said.
Usman also pledged to employ all the students with distinctions into the state Civil Service while those with lower qualifications would also be empowered one way or the other.
