This was as members of the state PDP continued to celebrate the victory of their governorship candidate, David Ombugadu, in the just concluded governorship election petitions tribunal.
The state APC chairman, Aliyu Bello, made the call during a press briefing at the party’s headquarters in Lafia, the state capital, on Thursday.
Bello urged members of the PDP to come up with ideas that would help propel the state forward instead of regularly using unpalatable and inciting comments which could cause disaffection among residents of the state.
He said, “Let me state here that Nasarawa is a peaceful state, inhabited by peaceful and peace-loving people. The citizens are committed to pursuing peace irrespective of the lineages, languages and religions they have chosen to practice, as no one can claim superiority over another.
“The opposition (PDP) has failed to control their supporters who have turned into political extremists and fundamentalists chanting war songs, attacking personalities and profiling persons perceived of divergent political views, all in their desperation to gain access to power.
“This, from all shades of evaluation is opposition taken too far. It is completely alien to our political culture, indecorous and unacceptable for a political party to continue to fan the embers of disunity in the state.”
He continued, “The public should be aware that we have maintained silence even in most provocative circumstances and have condoned so much indecent conduct from the opposition PDP whose major preoccupation is to create chaos with spurious and uncouth remarks. We therefore urge them to thread with caution and allow peace to reign.”
While expressing confidence that the state governor, Abdullahi Sule, will emerge victorious at the Appeal court, the APC chairman urged supporters of the party to remain united and sustain the existing peace in the state.
“The Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate were gifted a father Christmas judgment in a split decision by the Hon. Justice Ezekiel Ajayi’s-led panel which has remained the most controverted judgment in the history of governorship election petitions tribunals.
“We have since moved on, taking solace in the fact that the Appeal court shall review and reverse the judgment in favour of our party on the merit of facts and law,” Bello added.
