Reigning Nigerian Premier Football League champions recorded their third straight win of the season after recording a hard fought 1-0 win away at Heartland in Owerri, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
It was their first Oriental derby win since June 2015.
After a goalless first half that saw The Elephants dominate play and missed chances to score through Chijioke Mbaoma before he was replaced in the second half.
With the game looking to end goalless, Enyimba coach Finidi George made some tactical changes which immediately paid off.
He replaced Stephen Chukwude for Mbaoma who scored the match winner with his first touch of the game to hand Heartland their fourth defeat of the season. The win moves Enyimba up to fifth place with 16 points ffrom nine games while Heartland remain bottom of the log without a win so far this season in 10 games.
Elsewhere, Osayi Kingdom can’t stop keeping clean sheets for Doma United as he helped his side earn a share of the spoils in their goalless away at Remo Stars in Ikenne on Saturday.
Kingdom has now kept a clean sheet in eight Nigeria Premier Football League games for Doma United and it was his sixth consecutive of the season against The Sky Blues.
He is also yet to concede a goal in 540 minutes of action in the NPFL.
The 19-year-old goalkeeper has helped his stay unbeaten in their last six NPFL games has also made two assists to his name.
Doma remain top of the table with 18 points from 10 games while Remo Stars remain fourth with 16 points from nine games.
