Three persons were confirmed dead while seven others sustained injuries in an accident involving two vehicles at the Conoil filling station area on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday.
The Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday in Abeokuta.
Okpe explained that the incident occurred around 9:23 p.m. on Saturday involving a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number RLG 846 XA and a trailer marked JJN 32 YX.
She stated that the accident was caused by speeding which led to a loss of control on the part of the bus driver.
The FRSC spokesperson added that 18 persons, comprising 16 men and two women, were involved in the accident.
The statement partly read, “The crash occurred at about 2123 hrs this night with a total of 18 persons involved (16 male adults and two female adults). Seven persons were injured and three were recorded dead from the crash.
“Two vehicles were involved with registration numbers, RLG846XA Toyota Hiace Bus and a trailer, JJN32YX.
“The suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed which led to loss of control.
“The injured victims were taken to Idera Hospital for medical attention and the dead bodies were deposited at the same hospital’s morgue in Sagamu.
“The Sector Commander, FRSC Ogun Sector Command, CC Anthony Uga, advised motorists to consider this period of high vehicular movement and poor visibility due to the weather conditions.
“He reiterated on the speed among motorists and that commonsense speed limit is the best in order to drive and be alive.”
