The governor spoke on Wednesday at the Government Secretariat in Abere – venue of the New Uear traditional prayer session organised by the Traditional Religion Worshippers Association of Osun State.
At the prayer session, the 2024 New Year divine revelations of the Ifa oracle were revealed.
Adeleke, who was represented at the event by his deputy, Kola Adewusi, charged the adherents to be committed to their religion.
He also called on leaders of different faith to tolerate one and another in the interest of peace, adding that traditional religion had nothing to do with ritual killings or crime.
Speaking in Yoruba language, he said, “Be committed to your religion. Don’t treat your religion with levity. If you fail to be committed to your religion, you will jeopardise its future. If the Federal Government recognises Islam and Christianity, nothing stops it from promoting traditional religion.
“Government should recognise the practitioners and apportion to them responsibilities. There should be no disagreement.
“We don’t need to talk down on any religion. Nothing criminal was done regarding the traditional prayers that we had today and everything is going smoothly. I plead for religious tolerance among people of different faith. It should start from among leaders of all faith.”
PUNCH Online reports that the Oluwo of Iwo, Abdulrosheed Akanbi, on Tuesday, said royal fathers in the state were in support of Adeleke for a second term in office.
This was as the governor declared that his administration had recorded success in the areas where opposition party members did not give him a chance to succeed.
Oluwo and Adeleke spoke in Osogbo at an inter-religious service held at the state secretariat, Abere, to usher in the government and the state into the new year.
