Our betting expert provides Cameroon vs Guinea predictions for this AFCON first-round match on Monday, January 15th. Both sides will be eager to open their campaign with a positive result. With holders and tournament favourites Senegal in the same group, a defeat for either nation will leave them at risk of failing to qualify for the knockout stages.

Lions to Roar in the Opener
Only Egypt have won the African Cup of Nations more times than Cameroon. They are the slight favourite to be the winner of this opening Group C tie. At odds against, they are a tempting price to justify so a straight win is the first of my tips in this fixture.
The Indomitable Lions know tournament football well, finishing 3rd on home soil at the last AFCON. Despite a group stage exit, they managed to defeat Brazil in last year’s Qatar World Cup. Their team is solid at its core. With their direct style under Rigobert Song, they will challenge teams like Guinea, even though there are no head-to-head stats.
Our Prediction: Cameroon 2-1 Guinea
Bet 1: Cameroon to win @ 2.04 with Bet9ja
Attack the best form of defence
Looking at the stats from AFCON 2021, there were just 100 goals from 52 matches at an average of 1.92 per fixture. Cameroon stood out from this trend, as their seven games saw 21 goals at an average of exactly three.
It was a similar story at the World Cup, where they were involved in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Serbia. Guinea hope Serhou Guirassy is fit enough to line up here. The Stuttgart striker has 17 Bundesliga goals to his name this term, only behind Harry Kane.
Bet 2: GG & Over 2.5 goals in Goal/No Goal & Over/Under @ 2.86 with Bet9ja
Been there, done that, ready to repeat
Cameroon’s attack is led by AFCON’s top goalscorer in 2021 and Golden Boot winner, Vincent Aboubakar. Their skipper, who scored the goal that won them their last AFCON title, hit eight of his nation’s 14 goals at the last edition of this tournament.
The 31-year-old scored two goals in 140 minutes of action at the World Cup, including the winner against Brazil. He also scored twice in qualifying for this event in Ivory Coast. He can take a step towards retaining that Golden Boot by opening his account here.
Bet 3: Vincent Aboubakar to score
Paying the penalty
At the time of writing, the market hasn’t opened for a penalty to be awarded, which is what I was looking for. Therefore, the last of my predictions is for Cameroon to score a penalty, but keep an eye for when those other penalty options become available.
This has been a go-to bet at the start of the last couple of tournaments due to the tighter rules enforced by referees and the introduction of VAR. In the most recent FIFA Women’s 2023 World Cup, there were 10 penalties awarded in the opening eight games. At least one was given in all eight of those matches.
Bet 4: Cameroon to score a penalty
