The Head of Service made the call on Saturday after leading thousands of workers in the state at the ‘Walk for Fitness’ exercise organised by the Public Service Office, which began at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Secretariat, Alausa and terminated at Balogun Bus Stop in Ikeja.
“Walking for fitness has many benefits, such as helping to maintain a healthy weight and helping to lose unwanted and undesirable fat. Walking helps prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, cancer, and type 2 diabetes. Walking also helps improve cardiovascular fitness.
“You can also see that workers can use this opportunity of walking for fitness to interact, network with each other and also interact freely with their permanent secretaries because they would be at the same level in a relaxed mood and free atmosphere,” Agoro told the workers.
He further maintained that the exercise was a maiden edition, adding that it would be once a month, hinting that it would be compulsory for all workers and civil servants in the state.
Also speaking, the Assistant Director, Directorate of Staff Health Services, Ministry of Health, Dr Muritala Sunkanmi, stressed the importance of healthy living, adding, “Walking is a great way to stay healthy and strong.”
He also lectured the participants on the two common health diseases: high blood pressure and diabetes.
“Let me sound a note of warning that it is important we make sure as workers to engage in regular exercise to make our body fit and sound. But I advise those of us that have been diagnosed to have either high blood pressure or diabetes to visit our doctors regularly and ensure we use the prescribed drugs given to us,” he said.
