Oyebanji said the increase was necessitated by the role played by the higher institutions in the state’s development and in fulfillment of his promise to prioritise higher education and ensure Ekiti maintains its pride of place as the education capital of Nigeria.
The governor’s spokesman, Yinka Oyebode, in a statement, said with the increases, “the total subvention to higher institutions in the state has increased from N767.8m per month to N1.27bn”.
Oyebode stated that Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital erstwhile getting N261m will henceforth receive N411m.
That of Ekiti State University has been increased from N260m to N410m, while the subvention of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti has been increased from N175.8m to N275.8m.
Also, Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan Ekiti, has the subvention increased from N45m to N95m and that of Ekiti State College of Health Science and Technology, Ijero increased from N26m to N76m.
Oyebode stated, “Since his inauguration, the governor has also approved the payment of one month of outstanding subvention to all tertiary institutions which has since been paid to the institutions.
“He has also directed that the Independent Power Plant be extended to both EKSU and EKSUTH ensuring both institutions have 24-hour power supply.
“These financial, infrastructure, and governance interventions are part of the strategic effort by the Government to ensure that the state’s higher institutions are best in class, and deliver the type of education required to prepare our young people for opportunities in the 21st century,” the statement added.
