Almajiri, also known as Almajiranci, a centuries-old Islamic education system in Northern Nigeria, traditional
involves young boys studying the Quran under the guidance of a teacher (mallam). However, overtime,
socioeconomic challenges and neglect have led to the marginalization and suffering of Almajiri children,
highlighting systemic issues in the region. The system has been associated with non-participation in formal
education, abuse, poverty, and underdevelopment.
