The German powerhouses advanced 3-1 aggregate as the 23-year-old Sancho scored a low goal in the third minute and Marco Reus sealed a 2-0 home victory late on. This marked the team’s first quarterfinal appearance in three years.
Sancho returned to Dortmund in January following a tumultuous period with Manchester United, and last weekend he scored his first goal in the Bundesliga during his loan stay.
Sancho acknowledged his passion for BVB and expressed his joy at scoring at Signal Iduna Park once more.
He told TNT Sports, “I’ve always had a special place in Borussia Dortmund — this is where I made my name.
“I’ve got to be grateful to my teammates for believing in me and I’m just happy we got the win.
“It was a relief [to score]. All players want to have a good start to the game and there’s no better feeling than that.
“I’m just grateful I could get the goal for the team.”
Dortmund got the job done to move to the round of eight, though they were lucky not to concede in the second half.
Sancho continued to praise the home supporters, saying they were instrumental in ensuring the victory.
The England star added, “Coming into the game, we knew it was going to be tough but we always had the advantage because we were in front of our home fans.
“From the first whistle to the last, we stuck at our game plan and I’m just happy we got the win.”
Despite the apparent feel-good factor, Sancho’s evening ended in the 75th minute when he limped off holding his hamstring.
Buhe quickly eased fears over a potential spell on the sidelines.
Sancho said: “I felt something and I just didn’t want to risk it. We’re going to check and hopefully it is nothing.
“It is in the hamstring area but hopefully it’s OK.”
