Samuel Omorodion has seen his valuation soar in six months by 100 per cent, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
According to Transfermarkt, the 19-year-old’s market value has soared in six months from €400,000 to €40m.
Atletico Madrid signed the Spain U-21 striker for €6m from Granada last summer and since then his form and market value have steadily increased.
“Atlético scouted well and signed an absolute top talent in striker Samu,” Spain transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio Blaseio said.
“The loan move has also been a good move, and the big striker could offer real competition for (Alvaro) Morata in the attack.
“Clubs pay big fees for physical young strikers who can both finish well and have a high top speed. But Atlético will likely want to keep him in the fold.”
Meanwhile, Omorodion could make history when Deportivo Alaves host Real Sociedad in a LaLiga game on Sunday.
So far this season, Omorodion has nine goals and one assist for Alaves in La Liga this season in 27 games since arriving at the Mendizorroza stadium.
He is currently tied with former Nigerian striker, Christopher Ohenhen, for the same number of goals scored in a debut season in LaLiga.
Ohenhen scored nine league goals in 19 games in his first LaLiga season for SD Compostela during the 1994/95 season.
Omorodion will be aiming to end his five league games goals drought when he makes 20th appearance start for Alaves.
In the past, Nigerian strikers like Ikechukwu Uche and Obafemi Martins came close to achieving this feat.
During the 2006/07 season, Uche scored eight goals and made one assist in 31 games in his debut season in the LaLiga playing for Recreativo Huelva.
Uche went on to score a total of 43 goals and 42 assists in 194 LaLiga games playing for Granada, Villarreal, Real Zaragoza and Getafe.
Martins who played on loan at Levante from Seattle Sounders during the 2012/13 season scored seven times and made three assists in 21 games for Los Azulgranas.
Omorodion’s meteoric rise at Alaves has not gone unnoticed as teams from France and Italy made enquires over his availability in January.
According to Dairo Sports, Atlético Madrid rejected €30m for his service and they have scheduled a meeting with his representatives in the coming weeks to increase his release clause.
His current form puts him in a good position as a key player for Atlético Madrid in the future.
