The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in photos and a video shared on his X handle on Friday.
His caption read, “Officials from the enforcement agencies under the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources intensified the mopping up of banned styrofoam food packs across markets in the state.
“Environmental enforcement team yesterday raided shops across Ikorodu Local Government, Mosan Okunola Local Government, Badagry Local Government, Amuwo Odofin, Ojo Local Government, Somolu, Eti-Ota East LCDA, Eti-Osa Local Government, and some other parts of the state.”
Wahab further stated that all the seized items will be burnt.
He added, “All the seized items have been evacuated to Marini TLS in Bolade, Oshodi, for incineration.
“We implore all Lagosians to stop the use, distribution, and sale of the banned styrofoam packs in all parts of the state.”
PUNCH Online reported in January that the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, announced the ban on the use and distribution of styrofoam and other single-use plastics across the state.
In February, the ministry’s Director, Public Affairs, Kunle Adeshina, disclosed that styrofoam containers weighing a total of 169kg were seized from various markets and deposited at Marini TLS.
