The governor made this known in a post on x.com on Sunday, stating that the event is targeted at rejuvenating the commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
Sanwo-Olu wrote, “Today, I participated in the annual Lagos #TreePlantingDay2024 event, themed “Nurture Our Future.
“This event, organised by the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency under the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, holds great significance in fostering a sense of unity and responsibility within the community.
“The core objective of this initiative is to bring people together in a shared mission to protect our environment for the benefit of future generations. LASPARK, operating under the ministry’s guidance, has been given a mandate to plant 20,000 trees over the next year.”
Sanwo-Olu added that the target reflects a commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
“Planting trees not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of our surroundings but also plays a vital role in preserving the balance of our ecosystem.
“This event serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to nurture a better future for generations to come,” he said.
