Severe flash flooding and thunderstorms have hit parts of New York and New Jersey just hours before the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final between Spain and Argentina, causing major travel disruptions and affecting both teams’ final preparations.
Spain were forced to cancel their final outdoor training session due to the extreme weather, while Argentina’s training was delayed as heavy rain and thunderstorms swept across the region. Authorities also issued flash flood warnings, urging residents and visitors to avoid unnecessary travel.
Despite the disruptions, the World Cup final is still scheduled to go ahead at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday, with forecasts indicating improved conditions by kick-off.
