For many young Nigerians, the dream of becoming a musician begins long before the recording contract, professional studio or packed concert arena. It may start in a hostel room, a neighbourhood studio, a lecture hall, or simply with a smartphone, a voice and the courage to share a performance online.
But talent alone is rarely enough. What many aspiring artistes need is an opportunity to be seen, heard, mentored and connected to the industry. That is where Soundcity On Tour 2026 is creating a potentially important bridge.
Powered by BIGI and Fearless Energy Drink, brands of indigenous Nigerian food and beverage company Rite Foods Limited, the nationwide tour is taking music, entertainment, talent discovery and brand experiences to 20 tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The tour has doubled its reach from 10 institutions at its 2023 debut. But beneath the music, celebrity performances and campus excitement is a more compelling story: what happens when a young person who has talent but lacks access finally gets a platform?
Where Talent Meets Opportunity
Nigeria does not have a shortage of young people with creative ability. The challenge is often what comes after talent. An aspiring artiste may have the voice, songwriting ability or stage presence, yet lack access to professional producers, A&R executives, mentors, media exposure and the networks required to move from campus popularity to a sustainable career.
The BIGI Music Competition, embedded in Soundcity On Tour, is designed to address part of that gap. Students submit short performances of the BIGI campaign song online, with talent spotters identifying promising performers for physical auditions during the campus activation.
Those shortlisted then face industry professionals before the strongest performers progress through campus and regional stages towards the grand finale. It is a relatively simple idea, but its human value is significant.

A student who previously performed only before friends can suddenly find himself or herself performing before thousands and being assessed by people who understand the music business. That can be the difference between having talent and having a pathway.
From Campus Performer to Professional Opportunity
The competition is also structured to go beyond a cash prize. The overall winner is expected to receive professional production for two original songs, A&R support and mentorship, Soundcity Radio exposure, visual content production for a lead single and potential opportunities for brand ambassadorship. The objective is therefore not simply to find a winner for a campus competition. It is to help emerging talent understand what comes next.
In an industry where a young artiste can become popular online overnight, building a lasting career requires considerably more; professional music production, branding, audience development, intellectual property knowledge, media visibility and business understanding. That is why the mentorship and industry exposure attached to the initiative could prove as important as the competition itself.
The ultimate test, however, will be what happens to these talents after the applause fades and the tour moves to the next campus. If the most promising performers continue to receive professional guidance, recording opportunities, media exposure and meaningful industry connections, the programme’s impact will extend well beyond the event calendar.
*When the Audience Becomes Part of the Show*
For BIGI, the partnership represents more than putting a product in front of students. It is an attempt to meet young consumers within a culture they already understand and participate in.
Toyin Nnodi, Head of Marketing, Rite Foods Limited, explained the thinking behind the initiative, saying young consumers increasingly want brands that understand them and create experiences in which they can participate.
Through BIGI and Fearless, she said, the company is bringing entertainment, creativity and opportunities directly to young Nigerians. That distinction matters.
The students are not merely watching advertisements. They are dancing, performing, competing, taking photographs, interacting with the brands and, for some, stepping onto the stage themselves. The brand therefore becomes part of a memory rather than simply something seen on a shelf.
Fearless Brings the Energy

While BIGI anchors the music discovery component, Fearless Energy Drink brings a different dimension to the experience through its high-energy dance competition. Students are encouraged to step forward, express themselves and compete before their peers. For some, the reward may be the cash prize. For others, it may simply be the confidence that comes from standing on a stage and discovering that hundreds or thousands of people are willing to cheer them on. That is an often-overlooked dimension of youth-focused activations. A platform can create more than entertainment. It can create confidence, visibility and a sense of possibility.
The UNILAG Moment
The scale of the initiative was particularly evident at the University of Lagos, where more than 5,000 students attended despite heavy rainfall. Performances from established artistes including Qing Madi, Falz, Joeboy, Wande Coal and Mr P of P-Square shared the spotlight with more than 25 emerging artistes. The significance goes beyond the crowd size.
For a student watching an established star perform, the stage can appear distant and almost unreachable. But when emerging campus artistes are given the same platform, that distance begins to disappear. The message becomes simple: The next star could be sitting beside you in class.
The University of Ibadan stop continued the momentum, featuring artistes including Niniola, Qing Madi, Kunmie, Kodie and Priesst alongside rising campus talents.
Every Campus Has Its Own Sound

Nigeria’s creative culture is not concentrated in Lagos. From the South-South to the South-West, South-East and North, tertiary institutions have their own musical communities, styles, languages and emerging performers. That makes the expansion of Soundcity On Tour particularly significant.
The 2026 route includes institutions such as Pan-Atlantic University, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Yaba College of Technology, University of Lagos, University of Uyo, University of Calabar, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Ibadan, University of Nigeria, University of Port Harcourt, Niger Delta University, Ahmadu Bello University and University of Abuja, among others.
Adedeji Adeniji, Executive Producer of Soundcity On Tour and Chief Operating Officer of Group8 Limited, has described each campus as having its own identity, sound and community of emerging stars. That may be the most important reason for taking the platform beyond Lagos. The next major Nigerian artiste may not be waiting in a professional studio. They may be waiting in a university hostel in Port Harcourt, a lecture hall in Ilorin, a campus community in Bayelsa or a student residence in Zaria.
The Rite Foods Advantage
There is also a broader business story here. Rite Foods Limited is an indigenous Nigerian company competing in a highly competitive food and beverage market. Through BIGI and Fearless, it is positioning its brands within youth culture; not merely as products to consume, but as participants in experiences that matter to young Nigerians. That strategy is consistent with BIGI’s existing relationship with entertainment and talent discovery, including its sponsorship of Nigerian Idol.
The Soundcity partnership extends that relationship directly into tertiary institutions. It is a meeting point between business, entertainment, culture and opportunity. For the company, it creates stronger consumer engagement. For Soundcity, it provides a nationwide platform for music and talent discovery. For students, however, the value can be more personal. It can mean the first opportunity to be noticed.
Beyond the Concert
Every campus activation eventually ends. The music stops. The lights go off. The crowd disperses. Students return to lectures, hostels and everyday life. So the real question is not how loud the concert was. It is what remains after the concert.

If the young talents discovered through Soundcity On Tour receive the professional support promised through the programme, the initiative could become much more than a successful brand activation. It could become a bridge between Nigeria’s enormous pool of youthful creativity and the professional creative economy. And that is where the human story lies.
A young student who once recorded songs on a phone may suddenly have access to a studio. A campus performer may receive professional mentorship. A songwriter who had never met an industry executive may find someone willing to listen. A dancer who had never imagined performing before thousands may discover a confidence that extends beyond the stage. These are the moments that can change trajectories.
From Dreams to Possibility
Soundcity On Tour 2026 is, on the surface, a travelling celebration of music, entertainment and youth culture. But underneath the noise is something quieter and potentially more lasting: access. BIGI provides a platform for music discovery. Fearless brings energy and self-expression. Soundcity provides the entertainment ecosystem and industry visibility. Rite Foods brings the brands and the resources to connect the pieces.
Together, they are creating spaces where young Nigerians can participate rather than simply watch. The biggest success may therefore not be the biggest crowd, the most popular artiste or the loudest performance.vIt may be the young person whose name nobody knew before the tour; but who finally got the chance to be heard.
