Manchester City have emerged as early leaders of the 2026/27 Premier League season after Matchweek Two, with four clubs maintaining perfect records after the opening two rounds.
City, Arsenal, Chelsea and newly promoted Hull City are all on six points, setting up an intriguing early contest at the top of the table. Arsenal joined the leading group after a narrow 1-0 victory over Aston Villa, with Bukayo Saka scoring the decisive goal.
Manchester City produced one of the weekend’s most convincing performances, beating Crystal Palace 4-1 to maintain their perfect start. Chelsea also continued their strong opening under new manager Xabi Alonso with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Brighton.
Hull City have equally made an impressive return to the top flight, winning their first two matches and keeping pace with some of the league’s established contenders.
Liverpool’s start has been less convincing. The defending champions are yet to record a league victory after drawing their opening two matches.
They began with a 2-2 draw away to Newcastle United before being held to another 2-2 draw by Nottingham Forest at Anfield.
Manchester United, meanwhile, responded emphatically to their opening-day defeat to Hull City by defeating Ipswich Town 5-2, with captain Bruno Fernandes scoring a hat-trick.
Newcastle United, Brentford, Everton and Leeds United have also made unbeaten starts, although they trail the leaders on points.
At the opposite end, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Coventry City are yet to register a point.
Attention now turns to Matchweek Three, which begins on Friday, September 4, when Ipswich Town host Liverpool.
