Political commitments and early-warning efforts dominate Nigeria’s conflict-prevention conversation ahead of the 2027 elections, while hate-speech prevention, security intervention and community peacebuilding receive limited attention, according to data from the #TrackingNaija2027Elections initiative.
Analysis of 984 monitored observations shows political commitments leading with 28.15 per cent, followed by early warning at 22.05 per cent.
Stakeholder mediation accounted for 11.48 per cent, conflict-resolution mechanisms 11.07 per cent, preventive diplomacy 10.77 per cent, and peace campaigns 9.24 per cent.
At the lower end, community peacebuilding recorded 3.15 per cent, security intervention 2.23 per cent, while hate-speech prevention had the smallest share at 1.82 per cent.
The figures suggest that attention is concentrated on political pledges and identifying potential threats, with less emphasis on community-level prevention and measures addressing harmful political narratives.
The monitoring covers Nigerian newspapers from 2024–2026, as well as social and broadcast media monitored in 2026.
Analysts behind the initiative say hate speech and related indicators should be treated as important early-warning signals, alongside stronger community peacebuilding, mediation and other preventive measures.
As campaigns gather momentum, the data highlights the need to connect early warnings with practical responses capable of containing tensions before they escalate.
The #TrackingNaija2027Elections initiative is coordinated by CEREDEMS-Africa and its partners, with a 300-member volunteer network monitoring electoral governance, security, justice and peace, information integrity, artificial intelligence and elections, and inclusive participation.
