Today, we begin tracking from a new perspective, focusing on the policy and campaign issues shaping stakeholder conversations. The latest tracking examines how impactful the policies of the current governments at the state and federal levels are.
Our analysis of 1,109 stakeholder mentions from Nigerian Newspapers (2024-2026), Social Media (2026) and Nigerian Broadcast Media (2026) shows that stakeholders are paying attention to institutional reforms around electoral and political activities since 2023. However, several policies and initiatives affecting the socioeconomic status of citizens receive far less attention.
Consequences of Existing Policies According to Stakeholders (n=1109):
– Electoral and institutional reforms – 58.10%– dominates discussion
– Political party and electoral governance – 35.10%
– Governance and accountability – 17.90%
– Social inclusion and human development – 17.80%
– Security and public safety – 6.60%
– Economy and welfare – 5.30%
– Infrastructure and public services – 3.80%
– Information and media – 2.80%
– Political and constitutional restructuring – 2.70%
– Foreign relations and international cooperation – 0.10%
This gap matters. When stakeholders and experts focus less on these policies and initiatives, electorates are less likely to have adequate information to assess them.
At the same time, the media and citizens; expected to play critical non-state actor roles as campaign activities intensify; appear increasingly hidden within the information ecosystem ahead of the 2027 elections.
CEREDEMS-Africa calls on media, CSOs, and policy analysts to rebalance coverage: while tracking electoral reforms, we must equally interrogate the real-world consequences of government policies on jobs, cost of living, security, infrastructure, and social inclusion to empower voters.
