Political parties, the electoral management body and candidates account for most of the peace agreement discourse ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections, according to the latest #TrackingNaija2027Elections analysis by CEREDEMS-Africa.
The tracking of 53 peace-agreement-related observations across Nigerian newspapers (2024–2026), broadcast media (2024–2026) and social media (2026) found that political parties recorded 32.07% of the discourse, followed by the electoral management body and candidates at 16.98% each.
Campaign organisations accounted for 7.54%, while the judiciary/legal actors, media organisations and CSOs/NGOs each recorded 5.66%. Citizens/voters stood at 3.77%, while government institutions, religious leaders and other actors each recorded 1.88%.
Together, political parties, the electoral management body and candidates accounted for 66.03% of the monitored discourse, leaving relatively limited visibility for grassroots actors.
CEREDEMS-Africa called for a broader peace architecture involving media organisations, CSOs, traditional and religious leaders and citizen groups, arguing that electoral peace requires participation beyond formal agreements among political stakeholders.
