Public engagement with the civic engagement portal launched by African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has combined political endorsements with calls for attention to economic welfare and youth employment, according to a new tracking report.
The analysis by CEREDEMS-AFRICA, the University of Ilorin, and the RUDN University Institute of Geopolitical Communications examined 49 comments recorded across the portal and the ADC’s official website.
Political support, goodwill and general endorsement of Atiku’s candidacy accounted for 26.53 per cent of the interactions, making it the largest single category.
Among policy-specific issues, economic welfare and youth employment ranked jointly highest, each accounting for 18.36 per cent of all recorded comments. The economic concerns included the cost of living, subsidies, currency issues and business costs, while the employment category focused on jobs and opportunities for young people.
Security and conflict accounted for 12.24 per cent, followed by governance, accountability and multi-sector policy concerns at 10.20 per cent. Infrastructure, electricity and industrialisation represented 6.12 per cent, while campaign mobilisation and political organisation accounted for 4.08 per cent.
Candidacy-related political motivation and democratic governance, including opposition to oppression, recorded 2.04 per cent each.
The report linked the findings to policy issues identified by stakeholders since August 19, 2026, as central to the emerging 2027 election discourse.
Analysts said the pattern suggested that civic engagement portals could serve as platforms for citizens to negotiate policy priorities with political candidates, particularly where public contributions are considered in shaping party agendas and policy proposals.
The findings reflect the 49 comments analysed and should not be interpreted as representing the views of the wider Nigerian electorate.
