The Kwara State Government in its determined bid to further improve the living standards of the state’s residents has inaugurated a series of multi-million naira projects embarked upon and completed recently by the Local Government Councils in the Kwara Central Senatorial District of the state.
Arewa PUNCH reports that the four local government councils in the Central Senatorial zone are: Asa, Ilorin West, Ilorin South, and Ilorin East, respectively.
Meanwhile, our correspondent reveals that among the projects commissioned were – electricity projects in Yowere, the Asa local council; the Women’s Vocational Center in Ilorin West; the drilling of a motorised bore-hole at Isale-koto in Ilorin South and the construction of a Primary Health Centre at Alalubosa in the Ilorin East Local Government Council Area.
The State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, described the inaugurated projects as landmark achievements, which can be attested to by the large turn out of benefiting communities who showed their appreciation during the inauguration ceremony.
AbdulRazaq, who was represented by the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru described the choice of the projects as a true reflection of the yearnings of the people who had been denied the dividends of democracy by the successive administrations in the state.
The governor attributed the projects’ execution by the respective councils to the financial autonomy enjoyed by all the councils in the administration of their resources and most importantly, the free hand given to them in the choice of their projects based on the request of their respective communities within their domains.
Speaking on the electrification projects in Yowere, Asa Local Government Area, Abdulrazaq hailed the Council Management Team, who had committed a huge sum of amount good enough to the inauguration level of the projects.
However, he implored the benefiting communities to ensure that they guard the projects against vandals while assuring them of more developmental projects in the communities.
Similarly, at the Commissioning of the newly constructed multi-million naira Women’s Vocational Centre by the Ilorin West Local Government Council, the Kwara State helmsman expressed satisfaction and again commended the Management Team of the Council for its efforts at creating an avenue for its citizens to be trained in vocational skills.
Abdulrazaq disclosed that the state government had invested so much in projects targeted at training of youths and women from being job seekers to job creators, in order to tame the menace of unemployment in the state.
In her good will message at the inauguration of the Yowere electrification projects, the member representing Owode-Onire Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Rukayat Shittu commended the government for providing the enabling environment for the Local Government Councils to operate which can be attested to not only through the commissioning but with the numerous capital projects embarked upon and completed by the present Transition Implementation Committee members.
Rukayat further disclosed that aside her numerous empowerment programs aimed at assisting her constituents, the 10th Assembly would continue to come up with the enabling laws to further assist the citizens of the state.
On his part, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Abdullahi Bata hailed the government for repositioning the councils in the state not only in terms of salary payment but also by empowering them to embark on capital projects with direct bearing on the benefiting communities.
Bata disclosed that the ministry under his watch had recently completed the inspection of projects by all the councils, and he was pleased with the observations raised.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of Asa Local Government Council, Hon Abdulganiyu Saad stressed that the electrification project would connect many communities across the districts, while the Ilorin West Local Government Boss, Hon Omotosho AbdulGafar also lauded Abdulrazaq for the opportunity given to them to contribute to the development of their locality.
The Chairman of Ilorin South, Hon Zubair Gambari and his counterpart from Ilorin East, Hon Ayobami Seriki remarked that all the projects executed by them were mainly requested by the beneficiary communities and assured the remaining communities with similar requests to exercise patience as they would be attended to in earnest.
