The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Police has warned transport workers against violating COVID-19 transit guidelines set up by the state.
The Police command warned of tough consequences for members of the organised transport sector who did not adhere with the sitting arrangement guideline.
The command also called on the people to resist any exploit against COVID-19 guidelines from any commercial drivers.
The Commissioner for Police, Undie Adie, said this during a meeting with the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and other public transporters in the state on Monday.
He said that the deterring the guidelines could be counterproductive as it will undermine the tireless efforts of the State Government at curbing the spread of COVID-19.
The police boss in the state called on the leadership of the NURTW, RTEAN, others to warn their members and strictly adhere to the orders.
He said, “it must necessarily comply with all the condition that includes wearing of the nose mask, maintain distance in the bus, providing hand sanitizer and hand wash bashing at the various points at the pack”
“Sensitize your members, because our personnel will be out there to enforce the law and there is a consequence for any bus caught.
“No bus should carry more than what is stated in the existing guidelines. Passengers should also contest for the compliance with this sitting arrangement so they won’t have a delay on their journey.”
