Award-winning journalist and former CNN International anchor, Isha Sesay, will be featured this week on the Globacom-sponsored television magazine programme, African Voices Changemakers, offering viewers an intimate look into her remarkable career, advocacy work, and personal journey into motherhood.
Unlike her years behind the anchor desk interviewing world leaders and newsmakers, Sesay will be the guest of honour in this special edition, sharing insights from a distinguished media career that has spanned some of the world’s most influential news organisations.
Born in Sierra Leone and raised in the United Kingdom, Sesay built an impressive reputation in international journalism through her work with the BBC, Sky News, and later CNN International, which she joined in 2005. Her professionalism, incisive reporting, and commanding on-screen presence quickly established her as one of the network’s most respected journalists.
A graduate of Trinity College, Cambridge, Sesay reached another career milestone in 2009 when she became host of International Desk, CNN’s flagship global affairs programme.
Throughout her career, she conducted interviews with prominent figures across politics, business, and civil society, including former Nigerian Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
She later served as presenter of the 360 Bulletin segment on Anderson Cooper 360° before taking on anchoring duties for CNN NewsCenter, further cementing her status as a leading voice in global journalism.
Beyond broadcasting, Sesay has distinguished herself as a passionate advocate for girls’ education and women’s empowerment. In 2014, she founded Women Everywhere Can Lead, a non-profit organisation dedicated to expanding educational opportunities for girls across Africa and equipping them with the tools to become future leaders.
She has inspired many through her candid discussions about fertility and motherhood. She made headlines after welcoming her first child through In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), embracing motherhood as a single parent and becoming a source of encouragement for women navigating similar paths.
On this week’s edition of African Voices Changemakers, viewers will hear firsthand accounts of Sesay’s journey through journalism, her commitment to social impact, and the life-changing experiences that have shaped her beyond the newsroom.
The programme will premiere on Saturday at 7:30 a.m., with repeat broadcasts scheduled for 11:00 a.m. the same day. Additional airings will be shown on Sunday at 3:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday at 3:00 a.m. and 5:45 p.m., and Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. Further repeat broadcasts will continue in the same time slots through the following week.
